And then there is BABY (Shubhangi Litoria) – the iconic, no nonsense, one-in-a-million maid from SIT. Almost a cult figure on Shitty Ideas Trending; ever since the launch of Maid in Heaven – a web series, Baby has defied the way househelps/maids were shown earlier in films and television. She has gone beyond the Ramu Kakas and Shanta Bais of the world, to create a legacy of her own. And a huge compliment for this breaking of stereotype should go to the SIT founders and creators CHHAVI MITTAL and MOHIT HUSSEIN. Very often we see a character and praise it. But we often forget to acknowledge the brains behind creating it. For Chhavi and Mohit, the journey of Baby has been a personal journey so to speak. Life imitates art, and at other times, art imitates life. The journey of Baby’s character started way before Baby was conceptualised. The various kinds of maids that worked for Chhavi and Mohit, their mannerisms, their attitude and beliefs, their perspective of life and things, their reckless behaviour eventually resulted in an amalgamation called Baby. Furthermore, they nurtured the character to transform into what she has become today. There is an interesting story out there about Baby. When Chhavi and Mohit were casting for the character, they did audition a lot of maids. It was Mohit’s idea for the maid to speak in a different dialect. So when he asked Shubhangi if she could speak in any other language, Shubhangi was quick to speak in Bundelkhandi since she came from that region. Mohit approved of the dialect and rest as we say is history. Baby is probably the most annoying and boisterous maid one can come across, yet she is endearing. She is politically incorrect, yet her jibes make you laugh. What is it about Baby that despite being the person that she is, we still love her? Perhaps because she is a comic relief to us or another reason could be because of a special bond she has built with each of the characters. The bond may be sweet or bitter, but it is there for all to see. Baby will not behave the same with any of the characters. She always has a different camaraderie going with each of them. MEERA (Pooja Gor) completely detests her presence so much so that she has banned her from her house. On the other hand, ROHINI (Chhavi Mittal) considers her family and involves her in even making decisions for the house. RISHI (Karan V Grover) is convinced that Baby’s behaviour is not acceptable in any way, but he doesn’t really have much of a say because Baby is constantly putting him in situations he doesn’t want to be a part of. ABHIMANYU (Pracheen Chauhan) perhaps has the best track record of handling Baby, the way he does with most characters. One of the best and most hilarious equations Baby shared was with Rohini’s mother, where she did not even spare her. This week on Maid In Heaven we will have Baby interact with a new member of the SIT cast – SUNNY (Puru Chibber). It will sure be fun to watch on what different equation Baby develops with him and does she make his life hell or do we see her creating a friendlier bond with him.
